Wow, I did not know that this bit existed. Essentially. Mourinho started against Hull with a strategy of rotating double pivot moving forwards, with Oscar deeper to receive ball, often from centrally and somewhat wide, often from full back (see here: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/aug/18/chelsea-jose-mourinho-tactics-hull). Fabregas and Matic can do this, but with far greater ability on the ball, and physical capacity (certainly that Frank), so it is far harder to sit deep, because they can provoke the ball to a far, far greater degree. Oscar will still go deep to retrieve, but not so often, because the technical quality of the two in the Pivot is greater, so he can offer a more forward thinking passing option, and start higher up to initiate the press. Costa makes good movement to the channels, which allows Hazard more space, especially with the general lean rightwards with our team, it allows quick switches of play which leave Hazard 1 vs 1 with a full back. Still defensively solid in structure, Fabregas is positionally disciplined and can run, and no need for so many transitions from defence with offence, because we have more control over the game. More vulnerable to directness down tight hand side particularly.
