In this lineup we look to build upon triangles centralized in the mid-field (5,8,6) (9,8,11) (7,8,10) (6,7,8) (5,9,8) (8,10,11) Most great offensive soccer combinations are built from triangles giving ample space to pass and move. The idea of this formation is to build up position through the aforementioned groups and proceed forward. 11 and 10's role will be to check to 9 or each other to build up for a shot on goal. They will also make runs to the corner in an effort to secure either a corner or a cross. BY POSITION BREAKDOWN 8 Will have the most movement in the formation initiating not only the offense and counters but will take priority to win all balls in the midfield area. She will look to attack and pass the ball through to 11 or 10 while working of of them to make timed runs to make runs through to the goal of of give and go's (1-2s). She will also pass out wide to 9 and 7 or drop back to 5 and 8 if there is not enough space. She needs to always show to the ball calling in order to initiate the offense or hold the ball for recovery. 9 and 7 will be looking to facilitate forward movement of play either through 8, 11 or 10. They will attack the sidelines as far as possible continuing to advance the ball. if they are stopped from advancing they will look to either drop the ball to 5 or 6 or they may have the option to cross the ball to 8 in the middle of the field. 2 and 4 can also be an option if there are no options. 5 and 6 will be our midfield sweepers. They are the first line of starting the offense as well as our primary players to win the ball in the defensive half. They are last line of defense before the ball gets to our back three. They look to play off of each other while trying to advance the ball forward to 9, 8, or 7. Some rare cases they could play a ball over the top to 11, or 10. primarily they look to get the ball to 8 who will be coming to and showing for the ball. they will press the attack but being mindful they are defensive midfielders and more defensive oriented. They always get forward for corners and some free kicks. They also want to make themselves available for drops from 9 8 or 7 as well as outlets for 4, 3, 2 and the Goalie. 4,3,2 are our primary defenders. They will look to clear the ball out and forward anytime the ball comes near them. However, they need to clear with a purpose. This means that if they have a chance to make a good outlet pass to 5, 6, 7, 9, or 8 that is preferable. The main goal is to not allow the other team to score. When in doubt always clear the ball out to our attacking corner if possible. The back defenders need to just stay in front of the ball and in a straight line with each other enabling an offside trap. Communication is key. The defensive line should be talking the entire game because they are the ones that can usually see the entire field while play develops. They need to make sure to mark players in their zones as well as communicate to other teammates regarding gaps or openings. GOALIE - The Goalie will be one of the most important members of the team. They are responsible for protecting the goal from scoring from the other team. The goalie should also be the single most vocal player on the team. They yell out to organize the defense as well as starting the attack from goal kicks and or drop kicks. They should always be talking to their defensive line as well as coordinating space on free kicks and corners.
