- Defensive Backs: stay compact, zonal man marking is required. CB Stays free and pulls CDMs. - CDMs: "Destroyers" snuffing out opponents attacks, cutting off passing lanes, shutting down middle of the field. Most responsible for transition from defense into attack. Must make good passes and keep possession. Must cover winger's defensive duties when they are caught out of position in counterattacks. CDMs must work as a unit playing zonal defense to cut out passing lanes like a pendulum with CAM either pressuring the ball or picking out lateral or passing lanes behind the player with the ball. -CAM: Free roaming player to help in both attack and defense, being the conduit in attack and the main playmaker on the field. Must pass the ball quickly and not dribble into defenders where it is likely to lose the ball. -Wing-backs: Box-to-Box wingers giving support on the flanks, with both important duties in attack and defense. Must keep defensive duties in mind at all times. Wingers funnel into the middle of the field on defense (inside the Goalkeeper's box) and flare out to the sideline in attack. Man mark wingers in defense and press the outside backs when pressing opponent's backline. Forwards: Move in a unit, adjusting their runs to support the player with the ball while the other forward creates space or exploiting the area left opened by the supporting forward. When Pressing, forward closest to the ball puts pressure on the ball while free forward cuts off passing lane either to an outside back or center back. Goalkeeper [last but not least]: CATCH &/OR BLOCK THE BALL FROM ENTERING THE GOAL. Distribute ball to players without mistake or punt the ball past midfield.
