Basic formation: 4-2-3-1 The two CBs complement each other with Silva being the agile, ball playing partner and Kohler being the more physical. Courtois commands his penalty area with his huge frame, excellent catching and shot stopping. All three measure 6ft+ in height and will deal with the aerial threat from Mbappe and stop crosses from Robertson and Maicon. Alba and Cafu being one of the best of their respective generations, will ably support them on the flanks; both are quick full backs, adept at offence and defence. Both have a solid cross and will try to find Voller as often as they can. Their stamina and work rate will ensure they go up and down the pitch throughout the game. De Rossi controls the midfield, sitting deep, winning loose balls and dictating play along with the mastermind Pirlo. He is responsible for starting attacks from deep. Pirlo, the magician of the game helps the team in distributing passes, maintains the tempo of the game. He is robust in tackling and sharp in passing, he can either slip in a through ball to Lampard/Voller or spray the ball out wide to Son and Overmars. Lampard has important roles out of possession. He will press the opposition wide forwards on their side, blocking the passing lanes between full back and centre back, thus forcing mistakes and winning the ball back for the team. Though the opposition has a strong midfield, the Trio (Lampard, Pirlo, Rossi) will give them tough competition to maintain possession. De Rossi not going forward, He is helping silva and Kohler to neutralize threat created by KDB, Figo and Cantona. The two wide men are responsible for stretching the CBs and creating space in the middle. They will help in defence when faced with overlapping fullbacks. Both Son and Overmars have pace, stamina, positional awareness, which will aid the team in winning back possession and catching the opposition wing back out of position during counter-attacks. Son and Overmars can find that odd pocket of space and create havoc in opposition defence as most of the times both the opposition fullbacks prefer to stay up in the field. Lampard, one of the best-attacking midfield of our generation plays the no. 10 role. With his dribbling skills, guile and trickery, he has a free role; attracting fouls and winning free-kicks. He will often drift right to interchange positions with Son, pulling the CBs out of position, putting pressure on Maicon and allowing Son to make inverted runs between the lines. Voller, the flying German is the ultimate centre forward. His pace, ability to hold the ball, tactical awareness as well as natural goal-scoring ability will make sure he not only scores on his own but also creates space for Son, Lampard and Overmars into the game. Pirlo and Lampard are prolific dead-ball experts they do not need many chances to net a goal from set-pieces. Also, Kohler’s prowess in the air made him a goal threat during set-pieces.
