This allows you to flow between a 4 at the back in attack and a 5 during an attack. The cdm drops into a cb role when defending and the wing backs drop to normal fullbacks. This helps to create numbers in defense and a defnesive stability. The two central midfield players must be good on the balls and agile with good dribbling ability. They need to be able to receive the ball in tight spaces and get out of trouble. Kovcic type player. Or iniesta and xavi. That kind of vibe. You then have the wing backs. These are played a lot like chelseas fullbacks of reece james and chillwell. They get forward a lot and take advantage of the space ahead of them that is created by the high up the field wingers. You then have a false nine type player, like firmino. This player acts as the glue between then midfielders and wingers and the attacking third. This guy drops deeper than the wingers and picks up the ball to then dribble around the defenders and find the pass to the wingers. The wingers are then the main focal point of goals for this team. They are making darting runs in behind the defense waiting for the ball to reach them before they score. The main idea of this tactic is that it allows you to overload with numbers in all areas of the pitch. This is due to having 5 defenders whenever you attack. 5 midfielders - the two centre mids, cdm and the wing backs can tuck into support as well as having the false 9 drop deeper to help out if needed. Then you could also have 5 players in the attack with the false 9 and two wingers, the two wingbacks and maybe one of the centre mids can come into the attack as well. This would serve to overload the opposition as they would constantly be outnumbered by us. You would use quick pass and move and triangles to move past the opposition. This requires fast paced wingers, midfielders with good dribbling abilities, including cdm. It needs the wingbacks to have good stamina as they would be doing a lot of moving. It would also need the defenders to be comfortble on the ball. However this is negotiable should you have a long ball option available - tall players. The long ball option would need good distribution from the goalkeeper whereas if the defenders were better on the ball this would not be as neccesary.
