If mata cuts inside martial can make use of the space on the right previously used by Mata, and at the same time Rooney will make use of the space originally occupied by martial. This will cause confusion in the oppositions defense, as they would have to deal with Rooney making runs from the deep, which is one of his best traits, and Mata being able to slip him in - which is what he does best. If martial drifts out to the left flank, it would enable Memphis to cut inside, and as we saw against Brugge this is where he excelles as a player. So this tactic would make full use of every players traits, and i think this is one of the deciding factors when choosing to buy Martial.
