Start of the Prem 14/15 season. Players in: Marco Reus, Paul Pogba, Lucas Moura, Ilkay Gundogan, Eliaquim Mangala, Luke Shaw, Jürgen Locadia, Zakaria Bakkali, William Carvalho All of these additions are perfect for Manchester United, particularly the two holding midfielders and Reus. Admittedly it would be hard to sign all of these players, especially Lucas Moura and Paul Pogba, but there is still the option to play Carrick or Fellaini in holding midfield and Valencia or Zaha out wide. Similarly, at CB, Mangala is one of the most sort after defenders in Europe and it is rumored that Ezequial Garay is a more likely target. It is important to develop a spine to the team, as all premier league champions have had. Therefore i think it is important to establish Phil Jones as a starting CB, Gundogan and Reus (the two most crucial purchases) in midfield and also Januzaj behind the striker, whoever that might be. A key feature of this team is that it could easily adapt into either a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3, as the United team of '09 could. This is largely due to Reus' versitility, being able to play wide, up front or in behind a striker. To acheive this team, the sale of several players is neccessary. Rooney Nani, Chicharito, Cleverly, Ferdinand, Evans, Fabio and Buttner and possibly Vidic and RVP if another striker could be brought in. De Gea has shown that he can establish himself as a top european keeper and the form of Rafeal and Luke Shaw suggests that both can become top attacking fullbacks, which is becoming a vital role in european football. Chris Smalling would provide good cover in defence as well as Evra staying for another season or two, to share his experience with Shaw. As disapointing as Felaini and Kagawa have been, i believe that they could still perform a role in midfield, although Kagawa has been linked with a return to Dortmund and his sale could make Gundogan and Reus available. Carrick is in the form of his career but is getting older, making his role less and less significant each season. Fletcher is in a similar place in his career, having missed a long time through illness and is yet to return to his best form and so William Carvalho would be my choice to add depth to the midfield. Valencia is a very capable player and has gained a lot of experience during his time at United, but his form is very 'hit and miss' which is why i think a younger, more naturally gifted player like Lucas Moura would be a good addition. Zaha hasnt been given his chance to build on his promising pre season, but he remains a promising young player with lots of potential and would be a good option to have on the bench and eventually a starting player. Welbeck shows promise and his goal scoring is picking up, i have no doubt he can become a good premier league striker, but a young striker would be required to back up Welbeck and RVP. Belgian duo, striker Locadia and attacking winger Bakkali would be good additions to the squad, to replace those players who have left, amd if RVP was to leave, a world class striker would have to be brought in; possibly Diego Costa, Karim Benzema, or Edison Cavani depending on availability. Obviously all of these additions would cost somewhere near £250 million, which may seem like a lot, but close to £60 million could be recouped from the sale of Rooney, Nani etc. and the next 5 seasons are vital to the future of Manchester United.
