Application of Marcelo Bielsa's 3-3-3-1 formation that he used so effectively with Chile, Newell's and Athletic Bilbao. The system employs one sweeper to anchor the team and to clear up loose balls played behind the team. He also has an offensive role in starting attacks and looking for long balls to forward players. In front of the sweeper are the two stoppers who will provide the solidity in the backline making tackles and clearances without any requirement for attacking impetus. Further up the field we have a central midfielder who will look to protect the defence whilst also backing up attacking play and alongside him are two shuttle runners that will look to fill in where required such as in the full back position. In the attacking third there is a playmaker that will look be given a free role to try and create and either side of him are the wingers that will be the primary provides of width in the team. Finally, the sole striker will look to finish the chances created by the team as well as pressing from the front to keep the team high up the pitch.
