First Half: Both teams matched each other with 4231. But Rangers sometimes had 2 up top with Garner pushing into ST from the RAM position giving space for full back Tavernier to fill. Each sides RB high up could be seen on the overlaps or in counters. The attacking full backs struggled to make impacts on attacks and deliveries or timing were off. l This gave the left wingers plenty of space to go and exploit but were lacking creativity and options in the box as both team's strikers were quite lazy and weren't in the box at important times. Good pressing from Aberdeen at times causing Rangers to play long (as usual). However Rangers at some decent chances as one of the holding midfielders, the 3 attacking midfielders, right back and striker were all attacking options. Rangers not clinical with the handful of chances they had but defensively were tight preventing Adam Rooney to be a threat. Overall both teams lacking creativity, options and good fast, passing football. Second Half: A lot more space on the wings for Aberdeen allowing them to use their pace to get to the by-line but again poor runs in the box from the forwards. Early on in the 2nd lots of chances for Aberdeen both coming from the wings as Rangers full backs were either caught out or too narrow. Constant pressure from Aberdeen and tackles won in midfield gave them space but in the final third always lacking quality, true for both sides. Waghorn dropping deep trying to receive balls as The Rangers at times were confined to their own half thanks to pressure from Aberdeen. Again Tavernier had plenty space out wide as Garner continued to push in as a second striker. First 20 mins Aberdeen continued to pressure a shaky Rangers allowing many chances and going for it and leaving at times only 2 defenders back really leaving rangers pressed. Rangers were left stretched as 3 attacking midfielders of Aberdeen were alternatively had 2 really outwide giving the no 10 role and holding midfielders space to ruin into. Again Rangers lacking quality when in possession and constantly losing it putting pressure back on themselves, constantly on the back foot. Aberdeen very comfortable and playing a very high line unlike rangers who were found to be pushed back, giving Logan space out wide where he made good chances but poor balls in or attacking runs left Rangers defence to easily deal with it. 30 minutes into second half and still Rangers struggling to retain possession or make any chances what so ever. Some long diagonal balls from Aberdeen were effective finding either there wingers or attacking full backs again Rangers defence or were trying to play narrow were left stretched. Much better pressing from Aberdeen in the second half, Rangers struggling to deal with it and many forced errors were made leading to corners or counter attacks from a much better Aberdeen. Rangers seem to be happy with a draw as even though the made 3 "attacking" subs they never attacked with purpose until the 78th minute when the pushed with many options out wide resulting in a undeserved goal from baldy miller (pretty decent goal but). Followed by another goal basically 2 seconds later from a sloppy pass in defence and so much time and space for Dodoo to find miller again. Aberdeens constant pressure and chances wiped out by a well organised Rangers defence and 3 clinical goals late in the second. Aberdeen's defence crumbled after first goals: 3 goals in 3 minutes. Aberdeen going for it and full backs caught up allowed Rangers time to pick off the two out of place centre backs. Aberdeen out of the game began to play long and struggle to retain possession (just like rangers in the second before their goals.) Adam Rooney in particular very poor, attacking runs, pressure and impact on the game non existent. Joe Dodoo, very good impact sub who basically won the game for a poor performing rangers who ended with a flattering 3-0 away win.
