Impenetrable at the back, creative in the middle, and ferocious at the front! Many a manager will use those words, but here is a team that epitomizes it. In Lucio and Barzagli, we have two complete central defenders, and together with Abidal and Srna, have great positional awareness, extremely adept at reading the game, tactical acumen, strong tackling ability, aerial prowess, and extremely composed in one-on-one situations. Their pace, stamina and workrate are exceptional. Together they can hold a high defensive line as well sit deep and play the ball out of defence. Srna’s pace on the flank will bolster the attack significantly too. If football was replaced by a blunt object, the team’s midfield could make poetry come out of it too! The hard working Cambiasso’s acute tactical intelligence and strong tackle provides adequate cover to the defence, giving freedom to Scholes to pull the strings in the middle and control the midfield, while Riquelme will move the ball like few others could. Together this midfield is capable unlocking any defence, creating space and chances for the attack that is full of trickery, pace, intelligence, and goals! Neymar and Bale marauding from wide can rip through any defence, and then there is Sheva, a complete striker. The threat of Marcelo and Dani Alves on the flanks, known more for their attack than defence, will be hamstrung. If they go too forward, our midfield’s vision can initiate a move and our front three will finish before their defence tracks back!
