When Brazil is attacking, either Gustavo or Paulinho will slot into the CB position to form a back three. The other defensive midfielder will perform the traditional holding role of protecting the space in front of the three defenders and instigating attacks when the Seleção regain possession. The wing backs Marcelo and Avles will not need any invitations to get forward and join the attack. Oscar will carry out the playmaking duties he fulfils at Chelsea. Neymar and Hulk will both look to cut inside and get into the penalty area. This will leave room on the flanks for the overlapping Marcelo and Alves. This overloading has proven to be an effective way of breaking down stubborn defences. As for the balance of Luiz Felipe Scolari's side, Brazil are likely to defend with four men behind the ball and deploy six attackers; a very adventurous formation indeed.
