The starting team is set out to be a 3-4-3 or a 3-6-1 with receded attacking-Mids. Deep into attack, the AMs will push out to the wings to provide passing options while the wingbacks will underlap the AMs and move into the half-spaces. The two CMs must be well balanced as most of the attack will start with them; defensive minded but an eye for a pass will be the best-suited player to this. Someone like Thiago Alcantara of Bayern Munchen. An aggressive CB can also join the slightly weakened CMs by supporting into a DM position; someone like David Luiz in his prime or potentially de Ligt in his future. Lastly, the days of 2 STs are over, I have set up the defending team in a 4-2-3-1 on purpose because not only is it the most common formation at this time, it only has 1 ST and focusses on MF strength. The fluidity of this 3-6-1 is almost impossible to mark and the 4CM + the CB/DM combo will over-run and 3/4 man midfield resulting in the opposition wingers tucking in... exploit the wings when this happens. With the days of the 2-man ST team over, this team only uses 1 ST, a tall physical true number 9; although rare in modern football, someone like Lewandowski of Bayern or Ibrahimovic of LA could fit the bill. Of course, someone like Alan Shearer would have fit perfectly
