Team set up - 4-3-3 which becomes 4-4-1-1 while defending with Mertens and Gini covering up the flanks. Gameplay - High Press and Long diagonal balls. 1. Press the opposition when they have the ball. Team 2 keeper Lloris - either Mertens or Gini take turns to press Lloris when he is trying to play out from the back with Dost as the cover shadow to block any straight passes. Make him pass long or sideways. During corners, always put a big man directly in front of him. Neymar - Never give Neymar time on the ball if he is around 60-70 yards on the pitch. Shift him to the wing, and press him or foul him.. Chellini and Sule - Although great CBs they do not have the pace to cover ground, If they move high around the halfway line, either Mertens or Gini to run diagonal runs forward, and once the ball is retrieved , try long diagonal balls. rose and pavard - do not allow Lloris to pass to Pavard at any case. Press Pavard, but Lloris wants to pass to Rose , he can but put a cover shadow on the passing lanes and give Rose time to pass long, but not short forwards but backwards, Rose passing long would give the defence to retrieve to headers... verratti- Rakitic to man mark Verratti. dont let him dictate play and give time and space. rush him into making decisions. Never let Werner run at the defence..CBs to be close enough to cover the central space in front of goal Rakitic, Bruno & Rabiot to form a midfield triangle when we do not have position to keep the central midfield as tight knit as possible and gain ball back quickly. Alisson to put long balls in the direction of rose and overload him as quickly as possible..try and seperate Rose and his CB, and attack that space. Their forward line would be Rashford-Werner-Neymar. If werner has the ball, the Fullbacks and wingers to cover and shadow rashford and Neymar runs while the CBs deal with Werner. But, other than verratti and to an extent pjanic, they dont have anyone to press offensively...if they are going to sit back..we go to a 4-3-1-2 formation with Mertens and Dost up front with Bruno at 10 and Gini in MF. If Rashford or Neymar loses the ball offensively near the Penalty box, overload the space they have left and attack with abandon.. Maguire will always stay near our penalty box to cover up for any counter attack if our midfielders/defenders lose the ball up front
