The combination of Bielsas and Guadiolas philosophies is not done very often but I believe will be very effective. Implementing Bielsas high press with Guadilolas possession dominant game results in a very effective system. Each player has a role and each role is important in the system working. The Lb comes infield when in possession and out of it holds at left back. His/her role is known as an inverted wingback. Unlike the lb ,the rb is a traditional full back attacking up and down their wing. To allow this to be effective the two cbs drop out wide allowing the the cdm or 6 to dro in between creating a back 3 with the inverted wingback to be in front as a deep lying playmaker. the two cm in front have an important role as one picks up space and the other roams and mainly goes towards the wing and the striker acts as a false 9 and drops into the attacking midfield position creating space for the right and left wingers to make inward runs Out of possession the team holds its traditional 4-3-3 shape and press high and at an extreme intensity this demands high fitness levels for each player as each player must press when out of possession. i have lined out an opposition in todays most common formation which is 4-2-3-1 and this shows the spaces and positions my team pick up when in possession and attacking. my team has a 7 second rule when they lose the ball they must win the ball back or regain their defensive shape of 4-3-3 in 7 seconds! . this is all about quick transitions and play must be fast quick and accurate.
