This formation could play as a 3-1-1, 2-1-2, 2-2-1 but will resemble a plain 3-2 at kickoff. We will be a team that plays down the wings, encouraging our wingbacks to make forward runs as often as possible. Without a true center midfielder we will drop one forward into the open spaces in the middle, with the purpose of receiving and playing balls into the open spaces our wingbacks should be running into, or receiving and running at defenders with the ball to create 1 v 1 situations for either themselves or the other striker. If these quick counters are not effective we will look to possess the ball and look for diagonal runs behind the defense. The team will learn to shift forward and back as a unit and learn to cover for attackers to prevent counters by the opposition. In attack our formation should more closely resemble a 2-3, or even a 1-4 if the opposing team allows. Communication will be a key factor, with the center back and goalkeeper being the most important position in that respect. Goalkeepers will be encouraged to look to quickly break out of the back, rolling the ball to our wingbacks to create counters or with accurate kicks to forwards.
