play a four at the back with two wing backs. you have a defensive midfielder sat just in front of the two centre backs who drops into the central area of the other two centre backs if the wing backs aren't back and defending. the defensive midfielder would be playing a centre back role whilst we are defending but when we are attacking, he pushes up more but not too far up the pitch. The defensive midfielder never makes it equal to or past the two in central midfield. The two wing backs pose as fullbacks but as the game goes on they play as wing backs and they look to try to overlap the two wingers and create space inside for the two wingers and it allows the wingers and wing backs to link up and play one twos. Within the two central midfielders your gonna want one of them to play as a playmaker who can either stay deep or push forward. Then for the other central midfielder is the tank. This is the player that just runs around non stop and puts constant pressure on the opposition's midfield and attack. But you do not want to push this player too high up the pitch others you will be left with a weakened defensive line. Then the two wingers are gonna be getting the ball and then they need to drive into the middle with pace which will force their markers (the oppositions full backs) to follow the wingers inside which will end up leaving space outside for the wingbacks which will lead to one of the centre backs having to push out wide to the wing back to try to stop the cross which will then lead to there being more space in the middle for the striker and the wingers and also having the playmaker on the edge of your box. It also provides more of an ariel threat for the attacking team as one of the centre backs wont be in the box for the cross.
