In possession out of defense the ball should find Blind who should look for a forward pass to either Di Maria, generally in a forward diagonal out towards the left wing in order to transition in to attack in the opposition half, or to Herrera on the right. Di Maria will look to provide width on the left in possession and will be supported on this flank by LB Shaw in order to attempt to create 2 v 1 opportunities against the opposition fullback. Herrera will look to move the ball forward between the center of the park and the right flank with Rafael providing width with overlapping runs on the flank. In possession Herrera will effectively move into a position behind the strikers and outside the 18 yard box in order to help Mata provide options for balls back in from the wings and the opportunity to shuffle the ball side to side. Falcao must stay high up the pitch between the opposition center backs and look to make diagonal runs in behind them and exploit the spaces left when the fullbacks drift out wide to contain the flanks. Rooney must look to fill the space created by Falcao when he makes the diagonal runs and must help link play between Falcao, the flanks and the midfield. Jones and Rojo will hold a high line in possession at the halfway line with Blind staying close to them, but play slightly in advance of them to provide an outlet for the players in attack
