Neuer- Goes without saying, even if Courtouis was close. Lahm- Model of Consistancy, best full back in Europe for the last 5 years, if not longer Hummels- Gave Dortumnd great hope last year with some solid displays at the back, it's not surprising he's on other clubs wishlists Silva- If ever a defensive rock was needed, Silva would be the person you'd call upon. Despite Ibrahimovic being a bigger signing (in terms of media coverage), Silva has been as, if not more, crucial to PSG. Alaba- This young man never ceases to amaze. Despite only being 21, he has already established himself as a world class full back, despite centre midfield being his best position (as evidenced by some incredible performances in the position for Austria) Schweinsteiger- It's hard to imagine he's only 28, he's been around forever it seems. The driving force behind Bayern (and to a lesser extent Germany) his passing, tackling, workrate and the occasional goal laid the foundations for a sensational year in the Red of Munich. Took players such as Wilshere, Iniesta and Xavi to the cleaners in the Champions League and his battle with another player intruiged us all in the Final. Gündogän- And that brings me to this man. He had been playing well all year for Dortmund, but his masterful performance in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final vs Real Madrid, where he dominated more accomplished names and made them look like Second Division players (or like Tom Cleverly in other words). His performance in the final in matching compatriot Schweinsteiger and bagging a penalty was enough to put himself in the reckoning for a starting national team spot. Ribery- What needs to be said about this man. He's been a brilliant player for Bayern over the years but this year he gave them that little bit extra, and helped finish off the platform that Lahm, Alaba and Schweinsteiger supplied them. Top Class talent. Bale- Where would Tottenham have been without him last season? He was in Ronaldo-esque form, when it seemed any sort of a shot he took would somehow wind it's way to the top corner. While a price tag of 100 million euro comes with a lot of pressure, Bale has already showed signs of his clear brilliance in the white of Madrid and it is clear that he will be a main player on the team for years to come. Ronaldo- Well is there anything beyond this man (other then Lionel Messi, and his records)? Despite not beating those records, Ronaldo has showed enough to be considered in the same breath as the Argentine (and in some peoples cases, even better). While it is clear there is not much between them, last year was Ronaldos year. Lewandowski- It pains me to leave Van Persie out, as he single handedly led United to another title, and Ibrahimovic who did something similar with PSG (with the help of the aforementioned Silva). But Lewandowski was that special. Never in their long and successful playing careers have Sergio Ramos or Pepe been so badly destroyed as he was in the first leg of THAT Champions League semi final against Dortmund (even in those thrashings by Barcalona). The third goal was probaby the goal of the champions league, magnificant control, unbelievable footwork and then a stunning finish into the top corner. Its scary to think about how much he'll add to Bayern next year.
